This Friday brought two completely different films to the big screen — one a patriotic war saga, the other a light-hearted adult comedy. On one side was 120 Bahadur, a war drama starring Farhan Akhtar, based on the real-life heroics of the Battle of Rezang La. On the other was Masti 4, the fourth installment in the hit adult-comedy franchise that kicked off 21 years ago, featuring Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh, and Aftab Shivdasani.

According to early estimates from Sacnilk, both films opened to lukewarm collections, though Masti 4 managed to take a slight edge over its competition.

🪖 120 Bahadur Day 1 Box Office Collection

120 Bahadur earned an estimated ₹2.35 crore on its opening day, with an average occupancy rate of 8.58% across India.

The film started on a slow note with 4.52% occupancy in the morning shows, improved marginally to 6.58% in the afternoon, and reached 8.53% during the evening. By night, the film finally saw some movement, recording 14.7% occupancy.

Released on about 2,725 screens nationwide, the movie saw its highest show count in Delhi–NCR (766 screens), though the region clocked just 8.25% occupancy. Mumbai, with 456 shows, performed slightly better at 9.5%.

Produced by Excel Entertainment, the film’s opening numbers fell well short of expectations and underperformed compared to the studio’s recent releases. For comparison:

  • Yudhra (2024) opened with ₹4.5 crore,
  • Fukrey 3 (2023) began with ₹8.82 crore, and
  • The last big Hindi war drama, Sam Bahadur starring Vicky Kaushal, made ₹6.25 crore on Day 1.

In short, 120 Bahadur has started slow and will need strong word-of-mouth to pick up over the weekend.

Masti 4 Day 1 Box Office Collection

Meanwhile, Masti 4 managed to perform slightly better, collecting around ₹2.5 crore on its opening day, with an average occupancy of 9.98%.

The film began with 5.55% occupancy in the morning, rose to 9.06% by the afternoon, remained steady at 9.91% during the evening, and reached its highest at 15.4% for the night shows.

It released on about 2,857 screens, roughly the same count as 120 Bahadur. Delhi–NCR, with 667 shows, saw 9.75% occupancy, while Mumbai, with 461 shows, performed better with 12.25%.

However, despite taking a slight lead, the film’s opening is modest compared to previous installments in the franchise.

  • Masti 3 (2016) also opened with around ₹2.5 crore,
  • Grand Masti (2013) had a far stronger start with ₹12.5 crore, and
  • Director Milap Milan Zaveri’s earlier hit, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, had opened at ₹9 crore.

Even when compared to other Riteish Deshmukh sequels like Raid 2 (₹19.25 crore) or Housefull 5 (₹24 crore), Masti 4 lags behind.

In short, while it leads the box office battle this Friday, the film’s performance remains below franchise expectations.

Tough Competition Ahead

Both 120 Bahadur and Masti 4 now face stiff competition from Ajay Devgn’s De De Pyaar De 2, which is in its second week and steadily approaching the ₹55 crore mark.

Next week, another major release — Tere Ishq Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon — will hit theatres, likely cutting into their audience share.

The upcoming weekend and weekdays will be crucial in deciding whether these two new releases can recover from their slow starts or fade further under growing competition.

🎬 About War 2

While these films battle it out at the box office, another big-ticket release has already made headlines — War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji.

A sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War, it’s also the sixth installment in Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, following Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3.

Backed by Aditya Chopra, War 2 released on August 14, 2025, with Hrithik Roshan returning as Major Kabir Dhaliwal and Jr NTR making his Bollywood debut as a fierce secret agent named Vikram. The film also features Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, Anil Kapoor, and Varun Badola.

Despite massive buzz and a ₹400 crore production budget, the film’s momentum slowed after a strong opening. As per Sacnilk, it has grossed around ₹364.35 crore worldwide, which, while impressive, falls short of early expectations for such a big project.

Final Take

To sum it up —

  • Masti 4 leads 120 Bahadur by a small margin on Day 1,
  • Both films have underperformed compared to past benchmarks, and
  • The next few days will decide whether they can turn things around.

With strong competition already in play and more big releases lined up, both films will need excellent word-of-mouth to stay in the race. follow more news.
